President hails diplomatic sector’s role in national defence
Addressing the event, Deputy Defence Minister, Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, noted 30 years ago, Vietnam had helped Cambodia train tens of thousands of officers, including high-ranking officers now holding important positions in the Cambodian Parliament, Government and Army.
He described the meeting as an activity with deep political and social meaning, constituting a proof of the solidarity, friendship and co-operation between the two peoples and armies, as well as between Military Zone 7 of Vietnam and the Cambodian Royal Army forces.
He expressed his belief that the relationship between the two sides, especially the younger generations of both countries, will be firmer and more practical and effective.

On behalf of the Cambodian delegation, Defence Secretary Mung Somphone expressed his deep gratitude towards the Party, Government, Army and people of Vietnam for their help in his country’s fight against the Pol Pot regime and its struggle for national liberation.
Tran Don, Commander of Military Zone 7 affirmed that the zone will work with Cambodian Royal Army units to strengthen co-operation activities. They will focus on education and training, border demarcation, building a border of peace and friendship as well as improving the living conditions of poor people living along the shared border.
The Vietnam People’s Army has trained a total of 12,000 officers for the Cambodian Royal Army.
The Cambodian delegation is scheduled to visit Cambodian martyr’s cemetery in Dong Nai and Ba Ria-Vung Tau provinces.
